The body of a 19-year-old girl was on Thursday found hanging from a tree in a village in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
The girl, who had left the house on Wednesday evening without informing anyone, was found hanging from a tree near a temple in Thakurdwara police station area this morning, according to a report received by the DGP's office in Lucknow from the police in Moradabad.
The family of the deceased has not insinuated anyone nor has it given any complaint in writing, it said, adding that there were also no visible injury marks on the body. The body has been sent for post mortem examination, it said, adding that further details would be known only on that.
"The class X pass out was seen hanging on a citrus tree in a field about 70 metres from village Rajpur Milak this morning," DIG Moradabad Range Gulab Singh, who visited the area, about 30 kms from Moradabad, said. He said that the father of the deceased is a contractor in Himachal Pradesh and is yet to reach here.
"No complaint has been lodged by the family members," he said, adding that prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The facts will be known after the postmortem report and the statement of the family members, Singh said, adding the police is waiting for her father to arrive.
However, earlier reports suggested that the family had alleged rape and murder of the girl, which contradicts the police statement.
