Uttar Pradesh: Cattle smugglers crush policeman to death while fleeing in Jaunpur

Head constable Triloki Tiwari sustained serious injuries after he was crushed by the van carrying cattle. He was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A policeman was on Friday killed after being run over by alleged cattle smugglers while trying to intercept their vehicle at a checkpoint in Kotwali area here.

Triloki Tiwari, posted as head constable, sustained serious injuries after he was crushed by the van carrying cattle at Badlapur check point in the wee hours, police said.

Tiwari was rushed to the district hospital and later referred to Varanasi, where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.

Superintendent of Police Atul Saxena said Tiwari, hailing from Kaimur district in Bihar, was posted at Saraipokhta outpost for several years.

He said that a wireless message was received this morning around 3 AM that smugglers were transporting cattle in two vehicles.

The SP said the smugglers escaped from the spot after the incident.
