In stray acts of arson, agitators today set ablaze two vehicles and the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) office during the dawn-to-dusk bandh in state capital which brought life to a grinding halt.

The shut-down call was given by the Unemployed Arunachalee Engineers’ Association (UAEA) in protest against alleged faulty evaluation of answer scripts of AE (Civil) written exam conducted recently for recruitment in state’s PWD and the role of APPSC authorities in the issue.

Bandh enforcers set on fire the APPSC office in the wee hours damaging seven rooms of the building, police said.

Two vehicles parked in the official residence of APPSC Chairman Ligu Tacho were also torched by bandh supporters during the day.

The agitators also blocked roads at several sectors of the state capital which were later removed by the police.

All business establishments including banks, post offices and educational institutions remained closed during the day, while all sort of public and private vehicles remained off the road.

However, a few state transport buses were seen plying with police escort.

Attendances in all government offices were thin despite state government’s standing instruction to all employees to attend offices.

Police have arrested four people connection with the APPSC arson and torching of it's Chairman's vehicles, police said.
