NEW DELHI: The VHP on Tuesday launched its country-wide rallies to protest Congress-led UPA government's fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court seeking clearance to go ahead with Sethusamudram project.

A motor-cycle rally comprising several two-wheeler borne youths shouting pro-Hindutva slogans set for Parliament street as a part of the protest but were instead diverted to Raj Ghat by the police, VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal said.

"Country-wide motor-cycle and scooter rallies will also be held tomorrow as a part of the agitation," he said.

VHP leader Giriraj Kishore had asked the government to refrain from getting the stay order vacated so long as the protection of the Ram Sethu, whose origin has triggered a controversy, is not ensured.

'Sadhus' would decide the future course of action at a meeting to be held here this week. The details of the movement would be chalked out in a day or two, he added.

The motor-cycle rally organised by VHP's Delhi unit was addressed by state BJP chief Dr Harsh Vardhan upon its completion at Raj Ghat.
