Rail services on the Howrah-Delhi route were disrupted after hundreds of villagers set up a blockade at Isri Bazar Railway crossing under Dhanbad division of East Central Railway in Giridih district today.
The villagers of the Ghatwar caste, demanding that they be included in the Schedule Tribe category, also blocked the National Highway.
Giridih police superintendent, Ravi Kant Dhan said the police have been deployed in adequate number.
The New Delhi-Howrah Purva express, Puri-New Delhi Purusotham express, Jammu Tawi-Sealdah express, Haridwar-Howrah express were stranded or detained at various stations due to the agitation, Railway sources said.
