In what could become another controversy, Minister of State External Affairs, VK Singh commented on Tuesday that monitoring the rescue process of Indians stranded in the war-torn country of Yemen is less exciting than visiting the Pakistani embassy.
Singh is currently camping in Djibouti to regulate the evacuation of Indians. While briefing the media about the ongoing rescue operations he said that the evacuation process is a difficult task and the government is trying its best to rescue its citizens from the war-hit zone.
The former army chief had also invited controversy by tweeting the word “Disgust” after attending the Pakistani Day celebrations in New Delhi last month. When asked about his presence at the Pakistani High Commission that day, he said, “Government of India has to sent an MoS. They sent me and I went there and came back.”
India on Monday rescued more than 1,000 people by plane and ship, the most on a single day since Saudi Arabia launched air strikes against Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen on March 26.
India has been asked by 26 nations - including the United States - to help get their citizens out of the conflict zone. With nearly 3,300 nationals successfully evacuated from Yemen, India is looking at wrapping up the evacuation operation soon.
