Walkout in J&K Assembly over fertilizer 'shortage'

Agriculture minister, GH Mir, said there was no scarcity of seeds and fertilisers and added that the department was making every efforts to provide them to the farmers as per requirements.

Protesting against the "scarcity" of seeds and fertilisers in Jammu region, BJP staged a walkout in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly today.

Replying to question of Jugal Kishore (BJP), agriculture minister, GH Mir, said there was no scarcity of seeds and fertilisers and added that the department was making every efforts to provide them to the farmers as per requirements.
     
When the BJP member highlighted damage of crops in the Kandi belt, the minister said it was due to moisture stress during last Khareef season.

In respect of maize, there were some complaints about the quality of seeds supplied to farmers, the minister said and added that an enquiry was underway into the issue.

The saffron members were joined by those of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers party (JKNPP) and Jammu State Morcha (JSM). The parties later staged a walkout.
