Vastrapur police arrested one Narsinh Rabari, 35, a resident of house no 3 of Manipur-Elegance on Ghuma road on the charges of kidnapping a manager. According to police, Himmat Shah was kept in this house by unidentified abductors on Wednesday. Shah, a manager with an insurance firm, claimed that he managed to escape from the kidnappers by jumping off the gallery of that house.
However, in an interesting turn of events, while Rabari defended himself saying he was not in city at the time of the crime, a prostitute surfaced at Vastrapur police station claiming that Shah was never kidnapped in the first place.
Investigation by cops revealed that the arrested person, Narsinh Rabari, hails from Udaipur and is settled in Ahmedabad for last 12 years. He got married to Hansa and has a son.
He was arrested after it was found that he resided in the house where Shah had allegedly been detained. However, Rabari claimed that he had taken the house on rent of Rs 6,000 just last month. He is employed as driver with Gayatri travels in Vyaswadi for last eight years, and purchased his own Scorpio car a few months back. In his statement, Rabari told the police that he fell in love with a girl called Somi. He had gone to Rajasthan to drop her as she fractured her leg in an accident 15 days ago. He claimed that while returning, he received a call from his friend Ajay when he entered Ahmedabad in his Scorpio. Ajay asked him to reach Manipur-Elegance. When he reached there, Rabari saw Ajay along with three of his friends fighting with an unidentified man over some issue. However, police are not convinced by Rabari's claim.
Meanwhile, they were approached by a prostitute on Sunday evening. The girl, who identified herself as Bijal, rubbished the entire story of kidnap narrated by Himmat Shah. She said she was hired by Shah for Rs 700, and he had taken her to that house on his bike on Wednesday afternoon. According to her, Narsinh Rabari is innocent, as Shah was never kidnapped by Rabari or his friends. "When I was with Shah in that room, he asked me to do things which I didn't want to do. When he refused to pay me the promised money, I called some of my friends. He was caught with me by public and local residents so he is weaving stories of kidnapping. To clarify the matter, I decided to approach the police with my lawyer to register my statement," said Bijal.
Her statement has baffled the police who are now looking for the true picture.
