Aadhaar is an identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to individuals.
This number serves as a proof of identity and address across India.
From July 1, 2017, individuals will be required to furnish their Aadhaar number for filing income tax returns.
Aadhaar is also compulsory for aspirants appearing in JEE Main 2017.
It can be used to avail subsidy on gas cylinders under the Pahal DBTL scheme.
As per the Supreme Court, Aadhaar is not compulsory to avail the benefits of Social Welfare Scheme.
