Even as the nation waited with bated breath for ISRO to contact Vikram Lander, a special puja was performed at the famous Thingalur Chandran (Moon) temple, one of the nine Navagraha temples, in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu.

The prayers asked for ISRO to establish contact with Lander. Monday incidentally is considered auspicious for the Moon god. Special Pujas and ‘Abhishekham’ were performed.

According to Sri Kailasanathar Temple’s (also called as Chandranaar Temple devoted to Moon) Manager V Kannan, a special abhishekham was performed this morning to seek the divine blessings of the Moon God 'Chandran' for establishing contacts with the lander

The orbiter has clicked a thermal image of the lander.

Vikram was to land on the moon's surface on September 7. It was 2.1 km above the moon's surface when it lost contact with the ground station at ISRO headquarters in Bengaluru
