'Heavy to very heavy rainfall' is expected for over the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which released an orange alert for sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday's bulletn. Residents were warned by the IMD to stay away from weak structures and to avoid going into areas that are prone to water logging.
IMD posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that there would be intense rainfall in West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Sub-Himalayan region are all under an orange alert. On August 12 and 13, expect heavy to very heavy rainfall with a range of 115.6 to 204.4 mm.
Similar to this, on August 12, 15, and 16 the IMD released an orange alert for Uttarakhand with an advisory of "heavy to very heavy rainfall. "Intense rainfall ahead. An orange alert has been issued for Uttarakhand. Prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 to 204.4 mm on 12th, 15th, and 16th August. Stay safe and stay informed!" IMD mentioned in a tweet. IMD has also forecasted isolated extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday.
As per the latest bulletin, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh till August 14, and over Uttarakhand till August 16. Whereas, in Punjab and Haryana similar weather conditions have been predicted on Sunday and Monday. Over northwest Uttar Pradesh, light to moderate rainfall is likely on August 13 and 14; over East Uttar Pradesh tomorrow.
In the past few days, there has been a lot of rain in Uttarakhand, which has led to major waterlogging and flooding in many districts and disrupted daily life. IMD had previously issued an orange alert for Saturday for Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall activity from August 12 to August 16. Throughout Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram rainfall is expected on August 12th,15th and 16th.
IMD reports that between August 11 and 12, Gangetic West Bengal experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall, with Shyambati (13 cm), Deocha Barrage (9 cm), and Digha (6 cm) recording amounts of precipitation.
