Heavy rains continued to lash several parts of Kerala on Thursday, disrupting normal life. Similarly, Karnataka has been experiencing heavy rains in its coastal districts over the past few days. A landslide occurred in a ghat section of Goa on Thursday due to incessant rains, disrupting vehicular traffic from the state to neighboring Karnataka.

In the hilly areas of Wayanad district, widespread heavy rains have partially damaged 29 houses, forcing over 700 people to relocate to 22 camps as water levels in the region's rivers rise.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for two districts in Kerala on Thursday.

Red alerts were issued for Wayanad and Kannur, with orange alerts for eight other districts of the state and yellow alerts for the remaining six districts.

The IMD also predicted moderate rainfall and gusty winds of up to 50 kilometers per hour in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

The heavy rains in Kerala over the past few days have led to landslides, property damage, waterlogged roads, and flooded farmland.

With the monsoon still vigorous and rains not letting up, the IMD extended the red alert for coastal Karnataka until July 18.

Several incidents of flooding, uprooted trees, and minor landslides have been reported from many parts of northern Kerala districts. Uttara Kannada district, in particular, experienced heavy to very heavy showers in the last 24 hours.

Due to the reduced intensity of rain in south interior Karnataka, the weather department has downgraded the red alert to an orange alert until July 20.

The landslide near Dudhsagar Temple at Anmod Ghat, located on the southern boundary of Goa leading to Karnataka, disrupted traffic movement to areas like Belgaum and Khanapur in Karnataka, according to a police official.

The IMD has also issued a red alert for several districts in Telangana from Thursday through Saturday, indicating the likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

According to a daily IMD media release, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam districts are under a red alert on Thursday. This alert extends to Mulugu and Mahabubabad districts on Friday, and to Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, and Peddapalli districts on Saturday. Additionally, orange and yellow alerts have been issued for various districts until July 20.
