Weather update: IMD predicts heavy rain in several states for next 4 days; check full list here

Gujarat is expected to see severe rain through September 20, according to the India Meteorological Department. IMD issued a Red Alert for Gujarat in its most recent forecast and forecasted a severe precipitation there that could exceed 8 inches (204 mm).

With isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall quite possible over Gujarat Region & south Rajasthan today and tomorrow as well as over north Konkan, north Madhya Maharashtra today, mild to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning is expected.

Very heavy rainfall is probable over Gujarat state today, followed by heavy to very heavy rain tomorrow and today over south Rajasthan. It is quite possible that Jammu Division and Himachal Pradesh may have light to moderately heavy showers of rain or thunderstorms today. 

Over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Jharkhand isolated heavy rainfall is extremely likely, as are light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. Similar weather patterns are likely over Gangetic West Bengal on Wednesday and Thursday, over Odisha from today through Thursday, and Bihar on Thursday and Friday.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Odisha is likely to experience a few isolated, very strong downpours. Up till Friday, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are all expected to have light to moderately heavy rainfall/thunderstorm activity, with isolated heavy rainfall activity being anticipated, as well as Arunachal Pradesh between September 20 and 22.

Over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as over Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, there is a very good chance of isolated extremely heavy rainfall. 

Over Chhattisgarh from Wednesday to Friday, there is a very good chance of mild to moderately heavy rainfall and lightning. Rainfall that ranges from light to moderately heavy and is sporadic will likely occur in Kerala and Tamil Nadu's interior today.
