West Bengal finance minister Asim Dasgupta today announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the parents of Rajib Das who was killed by a gang of drunken youths in Barasat while he was trying to save his elder sister from being molested.
"I have discussed the issue with chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who cleared compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family and asked Rajib's sister and parents to meet him at the state secretariat Writers' Buildings," Dasgupta told reporters here.
Describing the incident as 'unfortunate', Dasgupta said the chief minister has already met Rajib's parents and family members at their residence and assured them that he would help.
To a question if service would be offered to any family member, Dasgupta said the CM might discuss this when the family members would visit him at his office.
"A CID probe has already been ordered and the culprits must be arrested and punished. Financial problems of the family must be taken care of by the state government", he said.
