Two days after the civic polls to the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation were marred by violence, massive rigging and booth capturing, unrest continues in West Bengal.
On Monday morning, CPM's polling agent Ujjwal Mukherjee was found dead near the railway tracks between Bidhannagar and Kankurgachi railway station. Mukherjee was the polling agent for CPM's candidate of ward 34, Dilip Bhaduri. After he did not return at night, his elderly parents filed a complaint with the police.
Several injury marks have been found on his body. His dead body has been sent for post mortem and the reports are likely to arrive by evening.
However, the deceased father has alleged that the Bidhannagar GRP made him give in writing that his son died in a train accident. "They were forcing me to write the cause of my son's death as train accident. How can I write something like that when we do not know the actual cause? I want the police to carry out an unbiased investigation and demand an immediate arrest of the accused," said Mukherjee's father.
On the same day, several live bombs were found at Baguiati. Police suspect that the bombs recovered were reportedly to be used during the Bidhannagar Municipal polls. Meanwhile, police has decided to carry out more such searches for bombs in the adjoining areas.
