The Sharma’s bungalow at Peera Garhi in West Delhi wears a sad look. Ten of its family members had gone on a short vacation to Kerala. Six perished in the boat that capsized on Wednesday. Only four will be coming back alive now.

The holidayers included Vineet Sharma, 50, his wife Sangeeta, 45, son Parth, 19, mother-in-law Vimla, 67, sister-in-law Sandhya Jain, 50, Sandhya’s husband Pardeep Jain, 55, the Jain’s daughters, Neeti and Shruti, and their husbands, Yash and Bala. Sangeeta, Parth, Vimla, Sandhya, Pardeep and Shruti are no more.

“We have lost six members of our family, including our nephew, just 19. I don’t know how Vineet will cope with this. He is a heart patient,” Vineet’s cousin Rahul Sharma said.

Parth was a second year student of Delhi College of Engineering. “He was an intelligent boy. He studied all day and Vineet rewarded him by taking him on vacations,” said a relative.

Another family of four — Arun Koura, wife Sruti Koura and their daughters Anika and Renu — died in the tragedy. Arun worked in Chandigarh and visited his family in Delhi every week. His wife worked in Sanchar Haat. The elder daughter was an engineer and the younger one a student. “The whole family is gone. Arun was a wonderful man. How could god be so harsh?” said a relative.

Another victim from Delhi was identified as Salika. But the authorities were yet to locate her family and address.
