The self-styled god-woman has been the talk of town after a dowry case was filed against her.

Move aside Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, you've got company. After the godman who made us endure MSG: Messenger of God, comes Radhe Maa who could be his sartorial soulmate. The self-styled god-woman has become the talk of town after she was named in a complaint filed under the Dowry Prohibition Act by a woman from Kandivali. The complaint accused Radhe Maa of instigating the woman's in-laws and husband to harass her for dowry. On Saturday, cases were filed against seven people including the woman's husband, as per the orders of a magistrate court. None of them have been arrested yet.

The woman was quoted saying: “My husband and in-laws used to say I had not got enough jewellery and cash from my parents.” She also said that she had been tortured. Her lawyer, Kshitij Mehta said the court wasn't taking cognizance of the matter, while senior inspector M Powar of Kandivali police station said an enquiry will be carried out in the matter.

Here are some facts about Radhe Maa:

Her real name is Sukhvinder Kaur

Born in Dorangala village in Gurdaspur on April 4, 1965, Sukhvinder Kaur was reportedly drawn to spirituality from her childhood days and would spend time at the Maa Kali temple in her village. She was introduced to spirituality by Shri Mahan Ramdeen Das at the age of 23. She is married and has three kids. In fact, she's a grandmother as well!

She has been accused of obscene behaviour

Radhe Maa has been accused of indecent behaviour by advocate Falguni Brambhatt who has filed a complaint of obscenity, as the god-woman reportedly allows her followers to kiss and hug her.

She was banned from the Mahakumbh

She has been banned from the Nashik Kumbh mela on August 29 by the Dwarkapeeth Shankaracharya Swami Swarupanand.
Mahant Gyandas, who also claims to be the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad said, "The entry of pretenders is rising in the sacred arena of sadhus and mahants. Trikal Bhavanta, Radhe Maa, and Sachchidananda, who is a liquor professional, should be restrained from participating in the 'shahi snan' (sacred bath)."

She has a 'Divine Experiences' section on her website

Some of her devotees consider her to be a reincarnation of goddess Durga and her coterie includes 'Chhoti Ma' and 'Talli Baba'. Her devotees include reality star Dolly Bindra and many of her followers are convinced that she has magical powers. Like any modern godman/godwoman she also has a feedback section on her website where people tell her how she has changed their lives. Her devotee (since the comments seem to be from only one person) says that she gave him Rs 10,000 to commute to work (for the month) and also made his 'vague chest pain' disappear by placing her hand on his head!

Thankfully, the site does carry this disclaimer - "Please note: These are personal testimonies of faith authored by devotees. Mamtamai Shri Radhe Maa or her sevadars have no role to play in their creation and they therefore take no responsibility for their claims."

Her organisation is quite tech-savvy and she also has a verified Facebook page.

One of her devotees who asked the media to stop its 'unfair trial' of the godwoman. Sanjeev Gupta, a Managing Trustee for the Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa Charitable Trust wrote on his Facebook page: “I wish to highlight some facts that are widely being misreported in media that appear to be connected with a dispute between Shri Nakul Gupta and the extended Gupta joint family. Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa has no connection with the matter. Guru Maa has blessed us by sharing the Gupta family home for the last 12 years. For some reason the reports insist on calling the house an 'ashram'. We sincerely hope that you will bear these facts in mind while reporting. We have firm faith in the courts and are certain that the truth will finally prevail.”
