The 32-year-old Delhi resident and engineer by profession had managed to get out of Pune police custody, starting a huge manhunt of Rs 3 lakh that involved multiple states.

During a significant anti-terror agency sweep, a suspected ISIS terrorist who was on the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) most wanted list was apprehended in Delhi.

The special cell of the Delhi Police detained Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama from a hideout in the nation's capital. He was recently detained as part of the NIA's ongoing search for suspects connected to the Pune ISIS module case and had a 3 lakh rupee reward on his head.

Officials from the Delhi Police Special Cell have also detained a number of people in connection with the investigation. Shafi Uzzama, along with Talha Liyakat Khan, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali and Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh alias Daiperwala, was the subject of an extensive nationwide manhunt. More investigation is underway. 

Several people were detained by the anti-terror agency last month for allegedly supporting ISIS activities in Pune. An agency officer had previously informed the news outlet PTI that the ISIS branch in Pune intended to sabotage the nation's peace and inter-communal harmony.

The NIA had discovered incriminating evidence that revealed the ISIS conspiracy at the residence of Shamil Saquib Nachan, one of the apprehended suspects, he had added. The anti-terror agency had claimed that Nachan and others planned to create and detonate improvised explosive devices in order to incite violence throughout the nation.
