Asad Ahmed, the son of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has been shot dead by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force. He was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case. Another man named Ghulam, son of Maksudan, also died in the encounter with the UPSTF team led by Deputy SP Navendu and Deputy SP Vimal. The encounter took place at Jhansi. Till about a month, there was no case against Asad Ahmed. However, he became UP's most wanted man after he allegedly led a gang of shooters who shot dead Umesh Pal in Prayagraj on February 24.
Asad is the third son of Atiq Ahmed, former gangster and Member of Parliament. He reportedly took over Ahmed's gang last August. His two elder brothers had surrendered in a UP court.
Asad had passed from a top school in Lucknow. He wanted to go abroad for studies but couldn't as his passport was not cleared by the authorities.

The police were not after him. However, he was caught on CCTV camera shooting Umesh Pal.
Asad had a reward of Rs 5 lakh. Atiq Ahmed is lodged in Gujarat's Sabarmati jail. Asad's uncle Ashraf is in UP's Bareilly Jail.
Asad allegedly took instructions from Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf from jail, collected a band of criminals and shot dead Umesh Pal. He and other gang members were seen shooting Pal. He was seen emerging from an SUV and shooting at Pal with a pistol.
Atiq Ahmed has two more sons who are studying in school.
The encounter took place near Jhansi.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were this morning brought to the CJM Court in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Umesh Pal was the prime witness of the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was killed at the behest of Atiq Ahmed in 2005. He was shot dead in February at his house in Prayagraj.
Umesh Pal's wife Jaya Pal had lodged a case against Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf, Asad and Ghulam. The police lodged complaints in sections that deal with rioting, murder and criminal intimidation.
Atiq Ahmed is an accused in the Raju Pal murder case.
CM Yogi Adityanath has praised the UP STF for the success. A report has been placed before him.
"After the encounter of former MP Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide, CM Yogi Adityanath took a meeting on law and order. CM Yogi praised UP STF as well as DGP, Special DG law and order and the entire team. Sanjay Prasad, Principal Secretary Home informed the CM about the encounter. A report was placed in front of the CM on this whole matter," CMO said.
