'We are not mafia. We need not listen to what Americans say,' Narayanan told a Malayalam news channel at Sabarimala.

Former national security adviser MK Narayanan has played down WikiLeaks revelation that the US embassy in Delhi saw a 'Keralite mafia' being active in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s office.

"We are not mafia. We need not listen to what Americans say," Narayanan told a Malayalam news channel at Sabarimala.

Narayanan, presently the West Bengal governor, was in Sabarimala last evening to offer worship at the hill shrine of Ayappa.

According to WikiLeaks, the US embassy noted in a cable in 2005 that 'along with principal secretary (in prime minister's office) TKA Nair, Narayanan constitutes what is now a Keralite mafia in the prime minister's office."
