KOLKATA: The question of withdrawl of Left's support to the UPA government over the Indo-US nuclear deal was not discussed at the CPI(M)'s Central Committee meeting, party General Secretary Prakash Karat said on Monday.
"We have not discussed that matter. Central Committee has reiterated the stand adopted unanimously at its August 22-23 meeting asking the government not to proceed with the next step," Karat said.
"With the UPA-Left Committee on nuclear deal slated to meet on October 5 an attempt is being made to grapple with the issues which we have posed before the committee," he said.
"Both sides are trying to resolve the differences. We have put up our objections and they have replied, And, the process is on, but they should not proceed till all issues are resolved," he said.
The Central Committee, Karat said, had authorised the Politburo to take appropriate measures to see that its stand was implemented.
Asked what would be the appropriate measure and whether it would mean withdrawal of support to the UPA government, he said "the appropriate measure will depend on what the government does."
