Yogi Adityanath announces Rs 2 lakh compensation for migrant workers killed in UP, MP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of eight migrant workers from the state who died in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna on Thursday early morning. Rs 50,000 each for critically injured have also been announced by the CM, news agency ANI reported.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of eight migrant workers from the state who died in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna on Thursday early morning. Rs 50,000 each for critically injured have also been announced by the CM, news agency ANI reported.

The state officials have also been directed to bring the bodies of the deceased to their relatives and families in UP.

The eight migrant workers were killed while 54 were seriously injured after the truck they were travelling in collided with a bus in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district. They were returning to their home in Uttar Pradesh from Maharashtra when they met with the accident.

CM Yogi also announced a Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia each to the next of kin of the six migrant workers from Bihar who were killed near Muzaffarnagar in a similar incident on Wednesday night.

“CM has announced Rs 2 Lakh each ex-gratia to next of the kin of the deceased and compensation of Rs 50,000 each to injured. Officers have been directed to send bodies of the workers to Bihar. Saharanpur Divisional Commissioner has been asked to submit a report after investigation, the UP CMO office said in a release.

The migrants were killed after they were hit by a bus on the Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur highway at around 11 PM on Wednesday. The victims used to work in Punjab as daily wage labourers and were walking back to their home in Bihar's Gopalganj.
