Yogi Adityanath government has proposed to build a Lord Ram's 'grand statue' in Ayodhya, latest reports say.
The statue is part of 'Navya Ayodhya' project that is seen an initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government to promote religious tourism.
The 100 metre tall statue will be built on the banks of River Saryu in Ayodhya.
The statue will be built after securing permission from the National Green Tribunal. However, the proposal has not been sent to NGT for approval. Apart from the statue, a Ram Katha gallery, an auditorium in Digambar Akhada are also part of the plan.
The Centre has approved Rs 133.70 crore to the state government for the Ayodhya's redevelopment project. But the the state government had sent a detailed project report (DPR) of Rs 195.89 crore to the Tourism Ministry at the Centre.
According to a press communique released by the Raj Bhavan, Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Principal Secretary, Tourism, made the presentation.
The presentation also included information on programmes scheduled for Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya on October 18. Governor Naik, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma will be present on the occasion.
