Youth Congress activists took to streets on Wednesday to demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into a recruitment scam in Madhya Pradesh.
The protesters were heading towards the state Chief's official residence to vent out their anger when they were blocked by the police and detained.
Protesters also warned that they would sit on an indefinite hunger strike, until their demands were met.
"We have decided to sit on a hunger strike after the atrocities committed on us. We were going to the state Chief's house in a peaceful manner to press for our demand for a federal police enquiry into the recruitment scam when we were stopped and baton charged,"said a Youth Congress member, Akhilesh Jha.
The recruitment scam involved manipulation in the selection process for government jobs conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB). The scam is currently being probed by the Special Task Force (STF).
