BJP MP Varun Gandhi said only those who either belonged to influential families or were affiliated with a big leader, got a chance to progress in politics.

Blaming nepotism and casteism, BJP MP from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi today said youngsters have lost their way and were not getting a chance in politics.

"Only those (youngsters), who either belong to influential families or are affiliated with a big leader, get a chance to progress in politics. This trend is spreading like a disease," Gandhi said, while addressing a rally here.

He said that unless common youth get a chance, the country's progress was not possible, adding, "There is a need of casteless politics in the country."

Varun said that politics had lost its path in the present scenario. "People elect their representatives, but do not take into account what they have done in five years. They should seek an account from their representatives," he said.

Varun demanded the government to provide an interest-free loan of Rs5 lakh to youngsters, so that they can start their own business or work.

Questioning the reservation policy of the Centre, the BJP MP alleged that the Women's Reservation Bill passed recently was merely a farce.

Varun alleged that there was rampant corruption in welfare schemes of the government, and poor people were not getting benefits of Below Poverty Line (BPL) and mid-day meal schemes.

He said that as his father and grandmother had dreams for Sultanpur, he considered this place as his home. "I will devote more time here," he said.
