HYDERABAD: If you thought Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi had fans only among the BJP and its allies, think again. Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy is the latest to join the chorus singing paeans to Moditva — to Modi’s strategic campaign focused on development and freshness in politics.
Members of the Reddy’s clique say he is completely impressed with Modi’s strategy of denying the party ticket to 70 sitting MLAs, including seven ministers, on the ground of non-performance. And, Reddy wants to follow this policy in Andhra Pradesh. Understandably, this has sent jitters through the congress camp as
Reddy has already prepared a weed-out list of 60 legislators and 15 MPs.
“We have to consider a Gujarat-like situation in Andhra Pradesh also if we have to overcome the incumbency and Telangana factor and also attract investments on a par with that state,” said a senior Reddy adviser.
Reddy had met Modi in New Delhi at the National Development Council meeting last week and paid kudos to the latter’s efforts in attracting investments to Gujarat. But it remains to be seen whether the congress high command will approve implementation of this formula in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the elections next year.
