Zomato delivery executive Kamaraj, who was accused by Hitesha Chandranee of assault, lodged a formal complaint against her on Monday (March 15).
In the FIR, Kamaraj has accused Hitesha of hitting him with slippers, falsely accusing him of hitting her, assaulting, defaming him, and hurling abuses at him. Kamaraj has filed an FIR at Electronic City Police Station in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Here's everything that has happened in the case so far.
Hitesha Chandranee, a makeup artist and influencer from Karnataka, had recently shared a video claiming that a Zomato delivery executive hit her and ran away after an altercation over delay in delivery of food. Hours after the alleged incident, the accused was arrested by the Karnataka Police.
Hitesha had shared a video of the same on her Instagram account and a shorter version of the same clip on Twitter.
After her video went viral, Zomato also shared an apology for the incident and promised necessary action. "Hey Hitesha, thank you for speaking to us, we can assure you this is not the experience our delivery universe stands for. Our local representative shall be in touch with you shortly to help you with the police investigation. Along with assistance on the medical care required. We can't emphasise how sorry we are, rest assured we'll take necessary actions to prevent such incidents from happening in the future," they wrote.
After Hitesha's video aired, Joshi Srinath Bengaluru DCP (South East), confirmed that the delivery man, Kamaraj, was arrested.
The Zomato delivery executive, however, shared a different version of the incident and denied the allegation saying that it was the woman who first verbally abused him, and then hit him with a "chappal." He was quoted by The News Minute saying, "After I reached her apartment door, I handed her the food and I was expecting her to pay me (as she had opted for cash on delivery mode of payment)." Kamaraj further said that he even apologised since the delivery was delayed due to traffic and bad roads but Chandranee was very rude.
