Sunil Gavaskar has been in the news in IPL 2020 for controversial subjects. During the game between Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunil Gavaskar apparently dragged Anushka Sharma’s name when Virat Kohli got out cheaply and the resulting miscommunication saw Sunil Gavaskar getting plenty of flak for his comment as well as support. However, during the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Sunil Gavaskar was a victim of mocking on social media, apparently for his height.
During the breaks, Sunil Gavaskar was analyzing the game along with Kevin Pietersen. The height difference between the two was apparent, with Pietersen measuring over six feet and Sunil Gavaskar measuring five feet and five inches. One Twitter user took the opportunity to mock Gavaskar for his height and he said, “Sunil Gavaskar looking so small.” However, he got a befitting response from Sheldon Jackson, the Saurashtra Ranji Trophy stalwart who was part of their winning campaign in 2020.
Sheldon Jackson responded by saying, “may be in height, but look what he has done and achieved for the country, not many tall men could achieve . your a cricket fan as of what i learn n see from your tweets there's already alot of negativity, try to spread a little positivity please, please.” The user has deleted his tweet.
Sunrisers Hyderabad dominate
Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a brilliant performance against Kings XI Punjab to win by 69 runs and surge to the third spot in the points table. David Warner hit his ninth consecutive fifty against Kings XI Punjab while Jonny Bairstow blasted 97 and was unlucky to miss out on a century. The opening partnership of 150+ helped Sunrisers Hyderabad reach 201/6.
In response, Kings XI Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals and despite an aggressive knock of 77 by Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan took 3/12 and Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a big 69-run win to boost their net run-rate tremendously.
With only one win from six matches, Kings XI Punjab’s ambitions of making it to the play-offs are becoming more distant as teams approach the half-way stage of the tournament.
