Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team skipper and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, celebrated his 32nd birthday on November 5. The right-hander from Delhi is a record-breaking machine for India and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In IPL 2020, he has scored only 460 runs at a decent average but he has still managed to create a new record. Virat Kohli has scored over 60 percent of his runs in singles and twos and that is a crazy testament to his fitness and commitment for every run. Virat Kohli continues to be the ultimate record-breaker eveytime he comes out to bat either for India and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Virat Kohli is the only player in this entire decade to have scored over 20000 runs in all formats combined and he has had several records that will take plenty of catching for the next generation. Virat Kohli’s tally of 973 runs in a single edition of the IPL, which he achieved in IPL 2016 with four centuries, might never be broken. In ODIs, Virat Kohli is closing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 51 centuries in ODIs while in Tests, he has a record number of double tons for an Indian with seven.
However, Virat Kohli is acknowledged as the ultimate chase-master when it comes to ODIs and T20Is. His record while chasing a total is simply magnificent, with India losing only three matches in the last four-five years whenever Virat Kohli has scored a century. His chases against Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan as well as against all other teams has been a stuff of folklore
Great batsman and captain
Virat Kohli has also achieved tremendous success as captain ever since he took over full-time in 2015. India achieved a series win in Sri Lanka after 22 years but his crowning moment came in 2018/19 when India finally ended their jinx and won a Test Series in Australia for the first time in their history. Although he suffered losses in South Africa and England, it was a testament to Virat Kohli’s mental strength and determination that India won the series.
At home, Kohli has been dominant. In the 2016/17 summer, India won series against all the nations, be it in ODIs, Tests or T20Is as their dominance reached a different level. Although Virat Kohli has struggled to achieve ICC tournament success, there can be no denying that his greatness will only increase in the coming years.
Happy Birthday, Virat Kohli. Thank you for making Indian cricket better. Thank you for the entertainment.
