The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin from September 19 with Mumbai Indians (MI) taking on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Abu Dhabi.

Most players of the eight franchises are sweating it out in the UAE heat as they gear up for the cash-rich tournament. There are however some who will be missing the event due to personal issues. One such player is MI's Lasith Malinga.

Now in Malinga's absence, Delhi Capitals (DC) star bowler Amit Mishra could have the chance to become the most successful bowler in IPL history.

The leg-spinner, who has played for the Indian team, has a chance to become the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL.

Currently, he is the second-highest wicket-taker in the list with 157 wickets in 147 matches. If Amit Mishra takes 14 more wickets, he will become the highest wicket-taker, breaking Malinga's record of 170 wickets.

Delhi as title contenders:

After having an impressive 2019 IPL, the Delhi franchise have a genuine chance of lifting the trophy this year. They retained most of their core players namely Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Kagiso Rabada. The team had to, however, let go of some under-performing players including Colin Munro, Colin Ingram and Chris Morris.

In return, during the mini-auction, Delhi purchased Alex Carey and Jason Roy to strengthen their batting, while Chris Woakes, Mohit Sharma, Lalit Yadav, Tushar Deshpande were an addition to the bowling unit. They even had two expensive buys in the form of Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis.

They even got Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin to fill the gaps in their lineup.
