Rohit Sharma has a whole plethora of record to his name and the opener added yet another one during Mumbai Indians' (MI) clash against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Thursday (October 1) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The Mumbai Indians skipper joined an elite list of batsmen in the IPL history who have scored 5000 runs in the tournament.
Ahead of the match, Rohit was just two runs away from this mammoth landmark and he achieved it with ease after missing out on it in the last match.
The MI skipper scored the 5000th run in style as he smashed Mohammed Shami for a beautiful boundary towards the outside-off.
With this, the Indian opener also becomes the third batsman ever to score 5000 runs in the IPL as well.
Before Sharma, his fellow Team India teammates, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli were the only two players who reached this mammoth score.
While the RCB skipper scored 5427 runs in 179 IPL games, Raina bagged 5368 runs in 193 matches.
Earlier in the day, KXIP skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first against Mumbai Indians.
