Kings XI Punjab needed one run off two balls against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 clash in Dubai. Mayank Agarwal had blazed away to 89 and needed just one run to seal the game. However, he fell on the fifth ball and Chris Jordan also departed in the next ball as the match headed into the Super Over. Kings XI Punjab surprisingly chose KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over and it backfired as Kagiso Rabada dismissed Rahul for 2 and Pooran for 0 as Delhi Capitals sealed victory.
This was not the first time though that Pooran was dismissed for a duck in the match against Delhi Capitals. In the sixth over of the innings, Pooran was undone by a brilliant ball from Ravichandran Ashwin as it spun away and breached his defences to be bowled for a three-ball duck.
KL Rahul rues missed chances
Kings XI Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals in their chase of 158. Mayank Agarwal stepped up and blasted the Delhi Capitals bowling to all parts, smashing two fours off Anrich Nortje and two sixes off Mohit Sharma. He continued the onslaught with two fours off Rabada and responded by slamming a six and a four off Stoinis in the final over. The boundary was a result of a dropped catch by Shreyas Iyer at deep midwicket. However, Agarwal could not get Kings XI Punjab over the line and the match was decided by the Super Over.
Rahul, though, praised Agarwal but rued the missed chances. “It is bittersweet. If at the end of 10 overs, if you had said this match is going to a Superover, I would have taken it. It's still our first game, so lots of learning. He (Mayank) was unbelievable and to get a game that close was magical. He's been doing well in Tests and to get the game that close again brings a lot of confidence in the group. I will gladly take it as a captain whatever the result is. We stuck to what we planned but we did make a few mistakes. At 55 for five, we were calm and still positive,” Rahul said.
