A dialogue with JC | Bitter sermons from ‘sweet’ Muni paves way for spiritualism
Muni Tarun Sagar
Muni Tarun Sagar is known for his forthright views. He calls a spade a spade even if it sounds bitter. A saint of all religions, Muniji has disciples cutting across the communities. Zee Regional Channel CEO, Jagdeesh Chandra speaks with Muni Tarun Sagar on various dimensions of life and social spirituality. An Excerpt:
Q. Your original name is Pawan Kumar Jain, how you became Muni Tarun Sagar?
A. Pawan means power which is always mobile, then I believe name also gives inspiration to stay ahead in life. A coincidence happened and I became Tarun Sagar from Pawan.
Q. How the decision to become Muni came into force?
A. I took sanyas at a tender age of 13...In the history of 2000 years, this is for the first time anyone has taken deeksha at such a young age. I think this is all because of resolves of previous birth that I took the course of Lord Mahavir.
Q. I early life, who guided you, is there any God father?
A. I belong to a simple family...my mother used to sing bhajans at home and I would get the inspired from them.
Q. Why people call you revolutionary saint?
A. I said I want to go to Bhopal..society said we will not let you go to Bhopal because there will be no one be to be part of your Pooja and sermons. We sent a message to the society of Bhopal and the society told me that we will not invite you to Bhopal because there will be disrespect for me in the society which will not be fair... but I went to Bhopal then the society there welcomed me with fear. I announce there that I will do sermons in front of Jama Masjid. I did 13 days long programme there which was attended not only by common people but also by Muslim brothers...I believe my revolutionary personality emerged from programmes in Bhopal.
Q. What is the issue of bitter sermons?
A. I had been sweet in the first 10 years. The side effect of me speaking sweet was that people used to sleep. Then my inner self told me not to waste time before these blind and deaf people... next day I made a statement and half of Hindustan turned against me...after that pressure was exerted on me to take back my statement...that was the beginning of bitter sermons.
Q. You have given sermons in Haryana assembly also?
A. I have given sermons in Haryana and Madhya Pradesh assemblies. I think those we are sitting in parliament and assembly need bitter sermon than normal preaching.
Q. Generally saints talk about preaching, spirituality and meditation...you touch social issues...an airport is coming up 30 kms from Jaipur and you are protesting it ... then what is the background of that?
A. Saints are teacher of society...then if such situation arises in society then saint has to provide guidance and should lead for the cause.
Q. You met the CM also?
A. Vasundhara Raje had invited me to CM house for sermons. I went there and requested her that a big chunk of area is getting acquired due to greenfield airport. She said Guruji whatever you are saying is unalterable truth...whatever you say will happen like that. I shower my blessings on Vasundharaji for that.
Q. Vasundharaji is known as the chief minister with great belief in divinity. Why she is so much religious?
A. She has come to me several times. And whenever she come we had arranged sofa for her but she preferred to sit on mat like commoners.
Q. As a chief minister how do you look at her?
A. She is managing such a large state. I believe it’s all because of her ability and talent...centre also values that. I believe she is working well for the public.
Q. You are a Digambar saint but you have a great following outside Jain community, how does it happen?
A. I am not acceptable every where. But I believe there are a large number of people who have affection for me. In my sermons, I don’t talk about any religion, any community, I talk only about life and everyone loves to live. That is the reason people live me. These days, people have scarcity of two elements: smile on face and happiness in life. I speak in both these elements and people not only listen to it but also choose it.
Q. After the episodes of Ram Rahim and fake baba, there has been a set back to the credibility of saints?
A. I had said that rapist babas are dangerous than Bin Laden...they are murdering religious beliefs... Akhada has released list of 14 fake babas...I say there are not 14 but 14000 fake babas...after exploring only we can get to know what kind of mischiefs are going on in the name of religion. There are no code of conduct for these babas and that is why such accidents are happening.
Saints like us have completely code of behaviour and only by discharging clothes one can’t become Digambar saint. When a saint undergoes commitment, he has to vow 28 commitments. There has to code of behaviour then only this organisation can be saved.
Q. Many babas have become entrepreneurs... how do you look at it?
A. I don’t find it necessary to comment on it...the course of spiritual practice is the way to renunciation...that is not a road to collection.
Q. How do you look at Narendra Modi as a Prime Minister?
A. I look at Modiji as a good Prime Minister. It seems after a long time, country has got a good Prime Minister. But I criticise Modiji for one thing... when Modiji was in opposition, he would oppose subsidy being given to slaughter houses during Congress government. Now Modi government has even hiked the subsidy on slaughter house and I will criticise it.
Q. Government is prohibiting Black Money...?
A. Black Money and Black soul - both are big problems...there is so much of black money in India that we can’t even imagine...I believe the provision of demonetisation which Modiji introduced is good for the country.
Q. Looking at Modi and Amit Shah, what do you foresee in 2019, is Modi becoming the Prime Minister again?
A. I think as long as there is Modi wave, there is no alternative to Modi.
Q. With Modi name of Amit Shah also emerges then how do you look at his personality?
A. Modiji is right in his place and Amit Shah in his... planning of Amit Shah is great and both are working together... you can’t evaluate them on a lower scale.
Q. As a saint, what do you think should Ram Mandir be constructed?
A. I tell you blatantly that if Ram Mandir is not constructed in Ayodhya then would it be built in Saudi Arabia? Construct the Mandir where Ram was born.
Q. What is your views on National Anthem and Vande Matram?
A. Those who are feeding in country should sing. We have more betrayers in our country than terrorists in Pakistan... it’s not easy to handle backstabbers.
Q. War is the only solution for Pakistan?
A. War is not a solution to any problem... this is not in the interest of both the countries.
Q. How do you look at Triple Talak?
A. The bill pass through Lok Sabha but stuck at Rajya Sabha. I will not call them anti national or anti religion but they are definitely anti woman. This bill was introduced to curb atrocities against Muslim women.
