Army officials has recovered a large number of empty cannon and tank shells from the warehouse of a contractor who purchased scrap from the army in Pokhran area of Jaisalmer. The team carried out a raid in Lathi Police Station area after getting the information about the presence of hundreds of live bombs. The top military officials reached the spot after getting the information. However, the ammunition appeared to blinds recovered from the firing range.
During the inspection of the warehouse, the army officials found different types of ammunitions and reported the matter to the senior officers immediately. In addition to the cannon and tank shells found in the warehouse, many rounds have also been obtained. However, the army has sealed the area and has also refused to provide the exact information on the matter at the moment.
As per sources, empty ammunition of various kinds have been found in Pokhran Field Firing Ranges and none of these are live ammunition. Also, pictures from the location indicate that the shells, rounds are un-fuzed and all explosives have been taken out from the shells through scrap route for disposal.
Investigation by local authorities is underway. These empty ammunitions have been handled in an authorized manner by the scrap dealer but investigations are undertaken routinely to ensure optimum security and safety.
