Around 90% officers, be it in the police headquarter or in the range are not active on the social media. Obviously, when the seniors are not using social media why would their subordinates do.

The police officials can also take a leaf out of home minister Gulab Chand Kataria who is comparatively more active not just on Facebook but also on Twitter. The home minister has 7353 followers. The Jaipur police have account on both Twitter and Facebook and they are regularly updated, but when compared to Delhi or Mumbai, the police in Jaipur is quiet behind. It has 10200 followers while Delhi has 1.47 lakh followers. Jaipur police also lag behind in tweets in comparision to Delhi, which has so far tweeted 12500 times, but Jaipur police has tweeted only 1625 times. Mumbai police have 38 lakh followers and Benguluru police have 9 lakh, but Jaipur which has 70 lakh population and also is a famous tourist destination, its police is followed by only 69357 people. Even its account is not verified.

Contrary to police, the traffic police is using social media in a much better way. But, they too are lagging behind police in other metropolitan cities. Among those not active are DGP Ajit Singh, who has neither Facebook nor Twitter account. ADG Pankaj Kumar Singh despite being techno friendly is not on twitter and he was last seen on Facebook page in 2011.
