Shekhawat said Congress has a history of strangulating democracy but it should not threaten the BJP.

Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has come down heavily on Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, for his statement about arresting the BJP workers participating in the February 8 - Jail Bharo Andolan by the party. He called upon the government to arrest its workers.

Shekhawat said Congress has a history of strangulating democracy but it should not threaten the BJP. He said that lakhs of workers in the country had been put in jail during Emergency and would not hesitate to do so again. He said that it does not befit the chief minister to indulge in such undemocratic statements. Shekhawat said that Gehlot has forgotten the promises he made to farmers and youth to come to power, but BJP will not let the government forget and compel it to fulfill them. Shekhawat said that BJP workers are ready to go to jail but will not go back on their proposed plans of protest.  

BJP has announced that it would protest against the government for not keeping up its promises.
