Shekhawat’s upyatra did not have any fanfare and grand welcomes due to national mourning on the demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

As an addition to the Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra, MPs of Rajasthan have also begun to organise upyatra (sub tour) across the state. The tours have been termed saansad gaurav upyatra and have begun from Tuesday.

The upyatras are being organised as part of the decision taken at the party level and aim to enhance the public reach of the CM’s yatra. The upyatras have a three point agenda; information (about the schemes of centre and state), feedback (about the works done) and public interaction. MoS Agriculture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on Tuesday, organised the upyatra in Phalodi area of Jodhpur. Local MLAs and leaders were part of yatra that was more focused on interaction and feedback with public. There were small meetings at several places like Baru, Tekra, Sihda, Tepu, Dedasri, Sherasar and others.

Shekhawat’s upyatra did not have any fanfare and grand welcomes due to national mourning on the demise of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He offered tributes to Vajpayee at meetings, which were more of small personalized interactions. “The centre and state have implemented many schemes for benefit of the poor. Together they are working towards making the life of a common man better,” he said.

Upyatras of other MPs will also begin over the week. “My 10-day upyatra will begin from August 24. Saansad upyatras will be held before CM’s yatra reaches their constituencies and cover places where Gaurav Yatra is not scheduled. We will be travelling more in the interiors at the panchayat level. Our focus will be on telling the people about the works done by the central and state governments,” said Kota MP Om Birla to DNA. Rajasthan has a history that whosoever wins in assembly polls gets more seats in Parliament polls, this makes the MPs eager to establish an early connect with the public.
