This is the third time that BJP councillors have been lodged in a private resort during the five-year tenure of a board of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC).

BJP councillors have again been lodged for the Jaipur Mayor by-elections. This is the third time that BJP councillors have been lodged in a private resort during the five-year tenure of a board of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC).

The councillors are lodged at a resort located on Ajmer Road on Sunday evening. BJP councillors will remain in the resort till January 22 and will go to JMC headquarters directly by the resort for the by-election on Tuesday.

During the mayor election in 2014, the BJP had lodged the party councillors. They were kept in a hotel located in Pratap Nagar for three days. Similarly, in December 2016, the BJP councillors were lodged in a hotel located in Pratap Nagar again for the mayor by-poll.

The by-poll for the post of mayor will be held on January 22. Being the majority in the municipal corporation, it is decided to make BJP candidate the next mayor. To make a consensus for the candidature of mayor by-election, BJP has decided to lodge its councillors in a resort.

According to sources, senior BJP leaders on Sunday afternoon called all the party’s councillors and directed them to reach the Pink Pearl resort located at Ajmer Road till 5 PM. About 50 BJP councillors out of 63 have reached till 6 pm.

The remaining councillors had a program to reach the resort by late night. BJP state vice president Rajendra Gehlot and state spokesperson and MLA Satish Poonia have been made in-charge for the mayor by poll. Based on the opinion of party leaders and councillors, both leaders will decide the candidates for the post.

BJP may decide acting mayor Manoj Bhardwaj as mayor candidate. In the year 2008, the BJP made the then deputy mayor Pankaj Joshi its mayor candidate for the by-election. In the Assembly Elections 2008, the then mayor Ashok Parnami was elected MLA from the Adarsh Nagar constituency.

Following the resignation of Parnami, the by-election was held for the post of mayor and the then deputy mayor Pankaj Joshi was elected mayor of the city. This is the first time when the third mayor will be elected five-year tenure of a board of JMC.
