Central Park is 322 bighas of green area in heart of the city and has recently assimilated more land, urban authorities plan to add more recreational value to the newly acquired space. This will include extension of the jogging track, development of kids play area and flower beds.
According to officials, the present jogging track at the park is 4 kilometer in length and will be extended to 6 kilometer length. The Jaipur development authority has come up with new plans after taking possession of nearly 15 bighas of land that was previously under properties of erstwhile royal families. These JDA had won its claim on the properties after a long drawn legal battle and despite taking hold of the properties last year, it had physically taken possession of the same over past couple of weeks. The urban authorities have previously contemplated on commercial lease of part of the land, however, the new government at state does not seem to be in agreement on the same.
This land is now part of the Central Park and officials have been asked to clear it of structures and made useful for public. Earlier possibilities were being expressed for part of the acquired property be leased for commercial purpose, however, the JDA officials hold that.
Urban development minister Shanti Dhariwal visited the park on Sunday to take stock of the situation and was apparently displeased with the ‘quality’ of works. The jogging tracks despite being refurbished last year continue to disappoint the visitors. Many of them had even raised a signature campaign earlier and as the urban development minister too is a frequent visitor to the park he too shared their concern.
