The Jaipur Metro to have approved policy for ‘rent permissions’ is contemplating developing a special coach for the purpose. The ‘special’ coach will be rented to individual and organisations for dedicated usage.
“The metro has been trying to increase its non-fare revenue and utility for the public. A decision has been made to rent out the metro facilities, a dedicated special coach is proposed to be rented” said a senior officer at Jaipur metro.
A board of directors meeting of Jaipur metro earlier this month had approved of the policy. A notification of the policy is expected this week as the draft of rules waits for approval. The policy though is expected to generate additional revenue for the metro, implementation of it is also faced with the challenge to meet the safety and operational norms of the metro. Issues related to permissions related to serving food and beverages at the metro also have to be provisioned.
A coach dedicated to the purpose will help to circumvent such hurdles. Designed to meet the special requirement will have relaxation from restrictions applicable to public use coaches.
According to the officials, the details of the special coach are being finalised. Along with a special coach the metro has also been working on details of the procedure and extent to which the operational areas could be leased for commercial use. The bids for lease of retails space is expected to be released shortly.
Bids Invited
In sequence to increase its fare revenue, the Jaipur Metro has invited bids for lease of retail spaces at Mansarovar and New Atish Market metro stations. The pre-bid meeting for the purpose have been invited on Friday. The bids for lease of retails space on the remaining metro stations are also expected to be released shortly.
