Kota: Bajri mafia attacks cops, forest team to free JCB machine

At least four forest and two police personnel sustained injuries in the attack. The police have lodged cases under relevant sections against 10-12 persons and arrested one of the accused in the matter.

In a shocking incident, around 10-12 members of bajri mafia attacked the forest and police teams with sticks and iron rods and freed the seized JCB machine being used for illegal mining for bajri near Barodiya Antri village under Suket police station of Kota district.

According to sources, when the forest department squad was returning with the seized JCB machine that was being used for illegal mining of bajri from the beds of Ahu River on Jhalawar district border, around 10- 12 persons laced with sticks and iron rods reached near Barodiya Antri village on Saturday noon and attacked the forest squad, SHO, Suket police station Bharat Singh told.  

These men were travelling in Bolero and motorbikes. The mafia goons freed the JCB machine which the squad had seized from the spot and was taking it to the station, Singh said.

Four forest and two police personnel sustained injuries in the attack and were discharged from the hospital after primary medical care, he said.

The police lodged a case under various sections of IPC against 10-12 persons and arrested one of the accused identified as Kanhiyalal, the SHO said.

Meanwhile the bajri mafia goons had already fled with the tractor trolley loaded with illegal bajri when the forest department squad reached the spot along the bed of Ahu River in an attempt to crack down against illegal mining of sand, the SHO said.

RAMPANT DIGGING

The banned bajri is extracted from the surrounding areas of the river and is supplied to Kota, Bundi and other adjoining areas of the district. According to sources, a truck loading about 1,200 feet of Bajri is easily available between Rs 60,000 and 70,000 however, the price vary from time to time.
