Prime minister Narendra Modi during his speech took a trip down the memory lane as he remembered former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and mentioned the name of former foreign minister and BJP leader Jaswant Singh.

Jaswant Singh is not keeping well and Modi, while speaking about him, said that he is praying for Singh’s quick recovery and wishes to see him in good health.

PM’s mention of Jaswant Singh, who originally hails from Barmer and is a respected leader in the region, was met with a huge applause by the audience. The PM also remembered former vice-president of India, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and spoke highly of him and his role in Rajasthan’s development.

Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra Singh, who is currently the MLA from Sheo in Barmer and has represented Barmer in Lok sabha, was present in the packed pandal along with many other MLAs when Modi made the mention. Later speaking to DNA, Manvendra Singh informed that Modi had inquired from him about the health of his father at the helipad and also during the meeting. He added that Modi was concerned and even before many a times on the phone he took updates of the health of his ailing father.

Notably, Jaswant Singh had fought the election from Barmer in 2014 against BJP’s official candidate col Sonaram who is now the MP of Barmer.

Manvendra Singh meanwhile played an active role in the work commencement ceremony on Tuesday and had been meeting and welcoming people arriving at the venue. He was also present in the meeting which was taken by state BJP president Ashok Parnami a few days back.
