With the filing of nominations for the upcoming state assembly elections, several candidates have started various drives. However, this is also the time when wrong methods are adopted to entice the voters and thus the administration and police have geared up to tackle such situations. For the purpose, the police have formed hundreds of teams increasing its vigilance considerably.
While hundreds of teams are already in the field, highly placed officials reveal that hundreds more will be deployed in the coming days as the drives would intensify further after withdrawal of nominations.
In the current situation, a whopping six hundred teams have been deployed across the state. “These teams consist of personnel in the ratio of 1: 5, i.e. one inspector or sub-inspector to five constables. There are two hundred assembly constituencies in Rajasthan and in each constituency, three teams have been deployed, thus totaling six hundred teams in all,” said NRK Reddy, Special Director General, Law and Order, adding further, “These teams are called as the flying squads. These teams go about working in search for cash and liquor among various other items.”
Meanwhile, in addition to the flying squads, there are three hundred Static Surveillance Teams (SST) deployed in the field. “The makeup of these teams is just like the flying squad, however, their goals differ completely. These teams keep into observation commercial tax evasion methods and act on the same. They can also act as supplementary teams to the flying squads if need be”, officials said.
