Rajasthan Assembly adjourned twice over Gaurav yatra, shelved queries

The start of the second day of the state Assembly’s monsoon session saw relentless attacks by the Opposition that had House adjourned twice in the first half of the day.  The Opposition tried to corner the government over dropping of around 4,000 questions and disposal of funds in Gaurav Yatra.

The Assembly proceedings were first adjourned for 45 minutes during question hour after the Opposition claimed that important questions on various public issues were not taken up in the House for ministers to answer. As everyone refused to pay heed to his pleas, the House was adjourned at 11:15 am, barely 15 minutes after it had started.

Speaking to media outside the House, Congress deputy whip Govind Singh Dotasara said that the voice of democracy is being trampled. He said that independent legislator from Fatehpur Nand Kishore Maharia and independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal had raised questions on expenditures incurred on the CM’s public meetings, on beneficiaries of various government schemes and allotment of bungalows to former CMs, but unfortunately those questions are left unanswered.

When the House re-assembled for zero hour, Dotasara and other Congress members vented their agitation by creating ruckus after the Speaker refused to accept an adjournment motion by the Congress on the alleged misuse of the government machinery for Gaurav Yatra. Dotasara’s argument that even the HC has disapproved “the misuse of government resources” for the CM’s yatra triggered heated exchange between BJP and the Opposition, which again trooped into the well. As the Speaker refused to accept the motion and the Opposition stayed put in the well, he adjourned the House for a second time till 2pm.
