Congress leader Kumari Selja

The existing party MLAs, tally reached to 25 with four winning bypolls

There is no guarantee that all 25 sitting Congress MLAs will get tickets, as hinted by Kumari Selja, chairperson of the Rajasthan screening committee. She held a closed-door meeting with 16 members of PEC (pradesh election committee) over ‘ticket formula’ on Friday.

When asked will all sitting MLAs, who won during Modi wave in 2013 when the party was  reduced to 21 seats only, get tickets, Selja clarified that only winability and merits will matter in the finalisation of the candidates. The existing party MLAs, tally reached to 25 with four winning bypolls.

Her statement indicates that performance of the sitting MLAs will be judged too before considering them for tickets and a few or many may lose ticket if they fail on the grounds of winability . Needless to say, her statement has sent shocking waves among the sitting MLAs who were sure of getting tickets.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana has dropped a message of giving priority to women candidates. “We are seeking feedback from the leaders. Our president Rahul Ji gives importance to the workers (in selection of candidates). If a woman can win election, the party will definitely give her priority ,” said Selja.

It has been learnt from the sources that 16 members of the PEC handed over suggestions to her in sealed envelopes on ticket formula.
