Rajasthan is in the process to add the capacity of solar power in coming months and plans to sell the excess solar power that the plants will generate to distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh. Sources inform that 1500 MW power generation is expected in coming months from Bhadla solar park. Such is the demand of solar power across the country that power purchase agreement (PPA) was done in March even though the plants will be able to give power a few months later.
“The PPAs of power which is being produced from various solar projects have been done a few days ago in the month of March,” said a senior official of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation ( RREC).
750 MW from Bhadla solar park which will be available by this September will be bought by Rajasthan Discom. The rest of the 750 MW from the same solar park will be available by April 2019. This will be taken by UP discoms, said a senior official of RREC. The rate per unit at which the electricity is provided through solar parks will decided by bidding process.
Currently the solar power capacity of state is 2317.11 MW and with the addition of 1500MW by April next year, the solar power capacity of the state will be greatly enhanced. There are solar projects in developing stage in Phalodi too which will also provide impetus to solar power capacity in the state. The solar power capacity of Uttar Pradesh is 551.45 MW and they are also adding up the solar power capacity.
States like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka have more solar power generation capacity than Rajasthan and Gujarat because of geographical location. Sources inform that this is because not much solar power is bought by Rajasthan discom even though the discoms are fulfilling the mandatory RPO to buy power from solar sector.
