The decision of picking the right form of decoration will get difficult for Pink City buyers this festive season. Earthen lamps or Diya makers have decided to give their best after prime minister Narendra Modi made an appeal to use diyas made by local potters.
Various kinds and shapes of diya can be seen around the city, including wax diya, tree-shaped diya, tortoise-shaped diya, painted diya, and many more. These are in addition to the modification to normal diyas like Panchmukhi Diya and Naumukhi Diya.
“The sales are much more better this year as compared to last year. We have already sold 50 per cent of out stock a week before the festival. The sales have also increased by 25 per cent. However, things get difficult when officers from Jaipur Development Authority do not let us display our goods on the side of the road,” said Kailash Kumawat, Chaura Rasta-based diya seller.
However, sellers like Kumawat import different kind of diyas from places like Bhopal and Gujarat. This level of competition has become tough to beat for local sellers. They, therefore, have reduced the prices by 10 per cent to sell their goods.
“We make goods based on the sales made last year. The response has been decent this year. Our sale price ranges around Rs 60 for 100 diya for normal diya and Rs 7 to Rs 8 for painted diya,” said Kusum Bai, a Badi Chaupar-based seller.
The prices at bigger sellers range at Rs 10 for painted diya and Rs 70-80 for 100 normal diya.
