Second spell of monsoon brought along moderate to heavy rains that lashed parts of Kota, Bundi and Baran districts of Hadouti region on Tuesday night and Wednesday causing heavy overflow of water in rivers and rivulets, creating flood-like situation in around two dozen colonies and bastis of Kota city. Five gates of Kota barrage of Chambal River were on Tuesday night opened to release water that created flood like situation in down areas of the city.
Meanwhile, three persons including a minor boy were on Wednesday swept away in overflowing rivulets in separate places in Kota and Bundi districts while one person was saved and about 45 persons were rescued from Talab Basti in Anantpura area of Kota city.
A 38-year-old man identified as Udalal Gujar, a shepherd and resident of Jalodi village under Dabi police station of Bundi district drowned into overflowing rivulet on Wednesday while he was grazing cattle nearby his village, said SHO at Dabi police station Budhi Prakesh Nama.
Similarly, 42-year-old man identified as Satyanarayan Saini, a resident of Maliyo ki Badi in Laxmipura area of Bundi district slipped into overflowing rivulet. The rescue operation was immediately initiated, but he too died, said police.
Arun Harijan (16), a resident of Bapawar too was swept away into Ujaad river in Kota district. The boy had come to visit his relative in Sangod and had reportedly, gone to take bath on the banks of the river when the incident took place. The rescue operation is underway to recover his body. Moreover, a bike-borne youth, attempting to cross overflowing overbridge on Sursagar Basti rivulet in Chambal Industrial area was saved. Heavy rains on Tuesday night created flood-like situation in Talab Basti accommodating about 150 houses in Anantpura area of Kota city and over knee-level water entered into the houses.
Rescue operation using boats was on Wednesday early morning initiated in Talab Basti and about 45 people including women and children have been rescued so far.
