Targeting the younger fashionistas, celebrated designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla talk about coming up with their first ever pret label.

The connoisseurs of couture fashion, designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are a name to reckon with. Celebrating 25 years into fashion, the designer duo, whose designs remain a hit amongst fashionistas and celebrities alike, have decided to launch their first ever pret-a-porter line.

Defined by typical summer shades and of course the duo’s trademark whites and off whites, the collection is focussed at the younger audiences, and comprises of shirts, kurtas, sarees, etc. “It’s a very summer collection with fabrics like Kerala cotton, georgette, and much more. Also the colours and prints are apt for the season. We’ve even got blacks this time, for a change. The palette goes from neutrals to full on, hits you in the eyes, neon,” reveals Sandeep.

Both Sandeep and Abu had wanted to do pret for a long time, but were looking for the right partners. “It’s not easy and practical to manage so many stores in several places. So far, we were looking for someone who could do a pret line for us, but eventually we decided to do it on our own,” says Sandeep, adding, “This (collection preview) is just to whet people’s appetite with our pret line… more like a movie trailer (smiles). In a year or so we’ll have a full-fledged label.”

Summer is all about the unstructured freedom of flowing fabrics, and clothes that let you breathe, says Abu Jani. “The label is perfect for the couture wearer who is looking for casual, fun additions to her wardrobe. It takes the style conscious woman from day to night and also features the glamour of gota and bling of sequins,” he explains.

The collection, as Sandeep describes it is ‘fun and funky’. “We just wanted to have some fun and expand our collection so that even the younger fashionistas could wear a Abu Sandeep design. It’s got our trademark style…You can wear it anywhere and anytime.”
