Jewellery designer Alpana Gujral showcases her latest collection called Mahzarin.

Alpana’s latest collection Mahzarin epitomises the essence of the Mughal Golden Era while regenerating antiquity gold. She says, “The collection has as much symbolic purpose as practical use; reminiscent of the golden age which represented peace, harmony, stability and prosperity and also represents a legendary time known for its extraordinary brilliance where art and jewellery flourished.

“Hailing from a family of artists, Delhi-based Alpana takes great pride in being creative and hardworking. Does she often discuss work with her father, Satish Gujral, she says, “We discuss our current projects with one another so we do give each other feedback. Mostly we share our creative perspective.” She is inspired by nature, art and expression, she says, “A combination of creative expression and a satisfied client inspires my creations.

I love to see my clients looking and feeling beautiful. It is important for me to see them happy and beautiful. How you look is a reflection of how you feel and wearing jewellery is an immediate feel good accessory. When beauty is reflected, beauty is perfected.” She believes art and beauty is really based on one’s perception. She adds, “One has to be able to recognise it.”

After nearly 25 years years of being in this industry, she still faces one problem she shares, “Though imitation is the highest form of flattery, I think it’s important to stay true to one’s talent. Be original.

But I prefer to focus on my piece of the puzzle rather than the industry as whole.” She also believes that selling jewellery makes it a profession but the designing aspect is art. She concludes, “For me, it’s a creative expression. Today, there are so many accredited programs and courses available to help guide future style leaders.
